The four Chinese fabric markets that matter
China does not have one fabric market. It has several, each with a different speciality, and going to the wrong one wastes days. Here is what each is actually for.

Keqiao, Shaoxing (Zhejiang)
The largest wholesale fabric market in China, and the default for woven apparel fabric: polyester, cotton blends, suiting, lining, prints. If you want to see hundreds of qualities in two days, this is the place.
It is a wholesale market, not a mill. Many stalls are agents for mills in the surrounding region, so the price you get depends on whether you are talking to the mill or the stall.
Zhongda, Guangzhou (Guangdong)
The centre for apparel fabric in the south, especially knits, denim, prints and trims. It sits next to the garment factories, so it is strong on fast turnarounds and small orders.
If your product is casualwear, streetwear or knitwear, Zhongda is usually the better first stop. The stalls are smaller and more willing to sell short runs.
Dieshiqiao, Nantong (Jiangsu)
The home textile market: bedding, towelling, table linen, curtains. If you are buying sheeting or terry, this is where the supply is concentrated.
Shengze, Suzhou (Jiangsu)
Chemical fibre and polyester textiles, especially for outerwear, sportswear and linings. Strong on functional finishes and recycled polyester.
How to visit without wasting a week
- Bring a reference garment or swatch, not a description.
- Carry cash or a working payment app; many stalls do not invoice.
- Collect business cards and cut samples, and photograph the stall number.
- Expect MOQ to be negotiable in the market, but confirm it in writing before paying.
- Hire a local interpreter for the first visit if you do not speak Mandarin — the English level varies enormously.
FAQ
Can I buy a few metres at Keqiao?
Often yes, as a sample. Bulk orders are placed with the mill behind the stall.
Which market is best for small brands?
Zhongda in Guangzhou, because the stalls are used to short runs and fast turnarounds.
