Home textile fabric sourcing from China
Home textile orders are larger and less seasonal than apparel, and the buyer is usually comparing on price per square metre at a fixed specification. Consistency between shipments matters more than novelty.
Fabrics that fit
| Cotton sheeting | 110–150 gsm, percale or sateen; thread count is the buying unit |
|---|---|
| Linen | 140–260 gsm, table and bedding; washed finish is usual |
| Canvas | 300–450 gsm, cushions and upholstery |
| Towelling | 350–600 gsm, terry; pile weight drives absorbency |
Put these in the spec
- · Thread count and the method used to count it
- · Width, and whether it is cut selvedge to selvedge
- · Colour fastness to washing and to light
- · Shrinkage after repeated washing, not one cycle
What usually goes wrong
- · Thread count quoted on the greige rather than the finished fabric
- · Colour matching across a multi-piece set made from different lots
- · Pile loss in towelling after the first wash
