Combed yarn

Yarn with short fibres removed, giving a smoother, stronger fabric.

Combing removes short fibres and neps and aligns the long fibres, producing a finer, stronger and smoother yarn. It wastes more fibre, so combed cotton costs more than carded.

It matters most where surface smoothness and pilling resistance are the selling point: fine jersey, poplin, dress shirts.
