Selvedge
The self-finished edge of a woven fabric.
The selvedge is the narrow, tightly woven edge that stops the fabric fraying. It is often where the mill prints its name, the shade number and the lot.
“Selvedge denim” refers to denim woven on a shuttle loom, which produces a narrow fabric with a clean selvedge — a different product from mass-produced denim, not just a marketing term.
