The fabric sourcing calendar: when to order for each season
Factories do not run to your calendar. They run to seasons, holidays and dye-line slots. Ordering at the wrong moment costs weeks, not days.

The rough windows
| Collection | Fabric ordered | Goods shipped |
|---|---|---|
| Spring/summer | August–November | December–February |
| Autumn/winter | February–May | June–September |
| Holiday / gifting | May–July | September–October |
Chinese New Year
Factories close for two to four weeks around Chinese New Year, and the weeks before are the busiest of the year as everyone tries to finish. The weeks after restart slowly, with staff returning gradually.
If your production window overlaps the festival, add four weeks, not two. Book the dye slot before December.
The two dates to protect
- The lab dip approval date — every day late here pushes the dye slot.
- The dye slot booking — confirm it before you promise a ship date.
- Peak congestion: the month before CNY and the month before major retail deadlines.
- National holidays in May and October also slow production and logistics.
FAQ
How early should I book production?
Eight to ten weeks before the ship date for a custom quality, longer if the shade is difficult.
Is air freight worth it at Chinese New Year?
For a bestseller with a hard launch date, sometimes. Plan earlier instead if you can.
