Pilling

Small fibre balls that form on the surface through rubbing.

Pilling happens when loose fibres work their way out of the yarn and knot together. Short fibres, loose spinning and abrasion all make it worse.

Combed yarn and anti-pilling finishing reduce it. Test with a Martindale or pilling box and agree a rating before bulk, especially for knitwear and fleece.
